How to Make Magic Real

What if the fairy you made up moved into “The Fairy Cottage” next door? 

Ada writes fairy stories while waiting in her mom’s lab. One day she looks up to see a real, live fairy hovering in front of her. Or is the fairy just part of her story? Reality and magic are all mixed up in this story of loss, wishes, friendship, and recovery.

In How to Make Magic Real, Ada is frustrated when her mom compliments her on her “pretty house drawing.” Ada was trying to make a diagram to plan Elyria’s garden, but it wasn’t working out so well.

Ada’s mom and I, however, loved her pretty house drawing! I asked my students to draw their own version of the drawing. Here is the one I chose to print in the book:
