Maybe someone called <em>you<\/em> lazy! I think that lazy is a pretty lazy word. When people are being &ldquo;lazy,&rdquo; they are usually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking a well-needed break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building community with others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thinking about something<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are all good and necessary things. Healthy humans don&rsquo;t work every second of the day. We socialize, we ponder, we imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there&rsquo;s one more way of looking at lazy, and it&rsquo;s this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Feeling unmotivated because you don&rsquo;t have any meaningful work<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And this type of laziness, research shows, is really dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taking care of your <em>self<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The healthy human has a <em>self&nbsp;<\/em>that&nbsp;needs to feel that they are moving toward <em>something<\/em>. It actually doesn&rsquo;t matter what that &ldquo;thing&rdquo; is!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-383\" style=\"width:246px;height:321px\" width=\"246\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720.png 550w, https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720-229x300.png 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some of us are <strong>action people<\/strong>&mdash;we love competitive sports, science projects, going out and doing things with other people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are <strong>thinkies<\/strong>&mdash;we love to spend long hours contemplating problems, making up stories, arguing ideas with our friends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are <strong>problem solvers<\/strong>&mdash;we don&rsquo;t feel good unless we&rsquo;ve identified a problem that needs to be solved and a way we can help out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are any combination of <strong>all three<\/strong> and even more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how we interact with the world, we&rsquo;re happiest when we feel that what we&rsquo;re doing is meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am writing this in a time of <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;pandemic&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;a disease prevalent over a whole country or the world.&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/pandemic\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">pandemic<\/a>, when lots of us are stuck indoors, not able to go out and do our usual routines, and separated from our friends. It actually doesn&rsquo;t matter! If it&rsquo;s meaningful to you, that&rsquo;s healthy and good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So don&rsquo;t be lazy&hellip;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&hellip;because real laziness doesn&rsquo;t exist. You will need some downtime, of course, because we all do.
