Maybe someone called <em>you<\/em> lazy! I&#x2019;ve even had students who believe that they themselves are lazy.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deviantart.com\/prodigybombay\/gallery\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bw___have_a_sasunaru_winter_by_prodigybombay_dh9h8p.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-382\" style=\"width:303px;height:320px\" width=\"303\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bw___have_a_sasunaru_winter_by_prodigybombay_dh9h8p.jpg 474w, https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/bw___have_a_sasunaru_winter_by_prodigybombay_dh9h8p-284x300.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Personally, I believe that &#x201C;lazy&#x201D; doesn&#x2019;t actually exist. I think that lazy is a pretty lazy word. When people are being &#x201C;lazy,&#x201D; they are usually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking a well-needed break<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building community with others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thinking about something<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are all good and necessary things. Healthy humans don&#x2019;t work every second of the day. We socialize, we ponder, we imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there&#x2019;s one more way of looking at lazy, and it&#x2019;s this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Feeling unmotivated because you don&#x2019;t have any meaningful work<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And this type of laziness, research shows, is really dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taking care of your <em>self<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The healthy human has a <em>self&#xA0;<\/em>that&#xA0;needs to feel that they are moving toward <em>something<\/em>. It actually doesn&#x2019;t matter what that &#x201C;thing&#x201D; is!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-383\" style=\"width:246px;height:321px\" width=\"246\" height=\"321\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720.png 550w, https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/emancipation-156066_960_720-229x300.png 229w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some of us are <strong>action people<\/strong>&#x2014;we love competitive sports, science projects, going out and doing things with other people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are <strong>thinkies<\/strong>&#x2014;we love to spend long hours contemplating problems, making up stories, arguing ideas with our friends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are <strong>problem solvers<\/strong>&#x2014;we don&#x2019;t feel good unless we&#x2019;ve identified a problem that needs to be solved and a way we can help out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of us are any combination of <strong>all three<\/strong> and even more!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how we interact with the world, we&#x2019;re happiest when we feel that what we&#x2019;re doing is meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am writing this in a time of <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;pandemic&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;a disease prevalent over a whole country or the world.&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/pandemic\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">pandemic<\/a>, when lots of us are stuck indoors, not able to go out and do our usual routines, and separated from our friends. This is the perfect recipe for falling into <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;despair&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;the complete loss or absence of hope&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/despair\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">despair<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;despair&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;the complete loss or absence of hope&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/despair\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">despair<\/a> never got us anywhere! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Find some meaningful work<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deviantart.com\/prodigybombay\/gallery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/the_rainbow_grove_by_prodigybombay_dqf70a.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-384\" style=\"width:344px;height:485px\" width=\"344\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/the_rainbow_grove_by_prodigybombay_dqf70a.jpg 638w, https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/the_rainbow_grove_by_prodigybombay_dqf70a-213x300.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Meaningful work is what&#x2019;s going to help you through boredom, frustration, loneliness, and all those other things that come along with hard times like these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What sort of meaningful work should you do? It actually doesn&#x2019;t matter! If it&#x2019;s meaningful to you, that&#x2019;s healthy and good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So don&#x2019;t be lazy&#x2026;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>&#x2026;because real laziness doesn&#x2019;t exist. You will need some downtime, of course, because we all do. But make sure that you are also <em>doing<\/em> something that will add meaning to your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Think about it:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can you <em>do<\/em> to give your life meaning?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is yours to find!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#x2019;ve probably heard someone get called &#x201C;lazy&#x201D; before.
