If it did, here&rsquo;s some food for thought:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Yes, life can be difficult.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I agree with you that there are lots of things to be negative about. This may be a small comfort, but there have <em>always<\/em> been a lot of things you could be negative about! Imagine being a kid during <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;medieval&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Also called the Middle Ages or the Dark Ages - the thousand years in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/medieval\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">medieval<\/a> times when the <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;plague&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;A plague is a disease that spreads rapidly. &amp;quot;The Plague&amp;quot; refers to the bubonic plague, an infection that killed many people during medieval times in Europe.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/plague\/\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>plague<\/a> hit your village. (OK, maybe you shouldn&rsquo;t imagine that!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But let&rsquo;s just take this as a given: Human life has always been full of peril.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why are kids more negative about life than kids used to be? The answer is pretty simple: we know more about the bad things that could happen. That kid in a <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;medieval&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Also called the Middle Ages or the Dark Ages - the thousand years in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/medieval\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">medieval<\/a> village only knew about the bad things that happened close by. You can know every bad thing that&rsquo;s happening in the world! You can even know all the <em>predictions<\/em> of bad things that might happen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That can be exhausting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But life is better when you focus on the positive.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on the positive doesn&rsquo;t mean only believing good things. All people need to pay attention to the struggles in this world and try to make it a better place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But focusing on the positive does mean making sure that you find the good things about every day. It means looking forward to good things that you hope will come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Everyone who has made positive changes in this world agree:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Mahatma Gandhi&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;An Indian lawyer who helped free his country from colonial rule through nonviolent means.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/mahatma-gandhi\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">Mahatma Gandhi<\/a> freed his people in India by focusing on the positive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Martin Luther King, Jr.&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;An American minister who led nonviolent civil rights protests in the United States in the 1960s.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/martin-luther-king-jr\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/a> believed that you should always recognize the joy in life, even in the midst of a struggle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Abraham Lincoln&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The sixteenth US president who led the country through the Civil War.&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" href=\"https:\/\/sukiwessling.com\/kidblog\/glossary\/abraham-lincoln\/\" data-gt-translate-attributes=\"[{&quot;attribute&quot;:&quot;data-cmtooltip&quot;, &quot;format&quot;:&quot;html&quot;}]\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\">Abraham Lincoln<\/a> led his country through a devastating civil war believing that he&rsquo;d find a better country at the end<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here&rsquo;s my challenge to you:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Every morning, plan to find a piece of joy in life.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Appreciate something beautiful in nature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Think about something you love about a family member or friend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look forward to learning something cool that you didn&rsquo;t know before.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Just writing this has made me feel joy that you, whoever you are, are out there listening.
